Pick-by-Point®- advantages and disadvantages
Pick-by-Point® was developed by LUCA GmbH from Halle (Westf.) and is a form of paperless picking. Communication with the order picker takes place using a laser installed in the aisle. This provides the order picker with information on which shelf compartment to pick the goods from.
The Pick-by-Point® picking method provides for confirmation of goods removal. This is implemented by means of access monitoring. The shelf fronts can be monitored by a laser sensor, for example. If the order picker reaches into the wrong shelf compartment, a warning signal sounds. Prohibited zones can be defined using software to control the laser.
The advantages and disadvantages of Pick-by-Point®
Theadvantage of Pick-by-Point® is that the warning signals mean that errors hardly ever occur and the picking performance is very high. As with the Pick-by-Terminal, Pick-by-Light and Pick-by-Voice picking methods, a permanent inventory is possible.
The high installation and maintenance costs area disadvantage , as each storage compartment has to be equipped with electronics. In addition, the main advantage of this form of picking is only given if no technical errors occur during picking.
