As a shipment usually comprises several items, the walking distances for single-stage picking quickly reach unacceptable proportions. Up to a certain size of business with a manageable performance segment, overcoming this problem is still quite simple.

On the one hand, the picking warehouse can be reduced in size by splitting off excess stock into a reserve area; on the other hand, several orders can be combined into a joint picking round.

This optimized process (several orders in one round) can also be implemented without IT support. The pickers now start the tour through the warehouse with several delivery bills or invoices.
