Order throughput time

When an order is received in a logistics center, it passes through various processes until it is completed. The throughput time is measured for each of these individual processes. If you add up the throughput times of the individual processes, you get the total throughput time, also known as the order throughput time.

An order can be of a different nature; if it is a delivery order, the order throughput time is equal to the delivery time that elapses between the customer placing the order and the subsequent receipt of the goods. The more service areas are involved here – including, for example, the preparation of the data, the picking units and the associated information such as packing lists, picking, packaging or any assembly that may be required – the longer the lead time.

Auftragsdurchlaufzeit

If the order is a transport order that is taken over by a freight forwarder, for example, the order throughput time is calculated from the pick-up time to the delivery time.

The calculation of the order throughput time therefore depends on the respective system and its individual throughput times.
