Definition of transport logistics
Logistics encompasses all the tasks involved in planning, controlling, providing and optimising processes along the value chain. Transport logistics involves the complete consideration of all logistics processes that are necessary for a transport.
It deals with the interaction of:
- administrative factors such as personnel management, vehicle management,
- dispositive factors such as transport control, transport strategies and
- operational factors such as transport technology, data transmission technology.
Tasks and objectives of transport logistics
The task of transport logistics is to distribute and provide goods at the lowest possible cost in the production process.
The objective is to optimise transport with regard to loading, unloading, capacity utilisation, handover and identification.
It encompasses the complete approach to all processes in logistics that are necessary for a transport. This includes the consideration of two so-called networks:
A supply network describes which types of suppliers play a role in the delivery process. A distribution network describes the spatial structure in which the distribution processes are implemented.
