GRASS GmbH
TUP.WMS Warehouse Management System at Grass
When the Austrian furniture hardware manufacturer GRASS saw its decentralized warehouse structure reaching its limits, TUP worked with the GRASS team to plan a new investment project—the largest in the company’s history, totaling 70 million euros: the central warehouse in Hohenems, featuring approximately 38,800 pallet storage spaces across 52,000 m². The result is the custom-built GRALIS WMS—based on TUP.WMS, supplemented by the material flow computer TUP. MFC, mobile device integration TUP.SML, and forklift guidance system TUP.FGS.
The key innovation was the hybrid picking system: Instead of a palletizing robot, it combines overview screens with mobile devices and replaces traditional pick-by-light with guided dialogs—ergonomic and requiring no lengthy training period. Inbound goods processing is fully automated, while outbound goods are processed sequentially via two shipping buffers. For the rollout, the company opted for a “train-the-trainer” model with super-key users instead of traditional classroom training. The target figures of 1,300 pallets per day with a 99% on-time delivery rate were already achieved during the ramp-up phase.
In doing so, TUP GRASS guided the company’s transformation from a fragmented network of warehouses to a centrally controlled, multi-site-capable logistics hub serving over 200 sales partners in 60 countries.
