The manual sort order fulfilment
Manual sort picking (MSP) is a software-supported manual sorting system. It is based on multi-level picking, but in contrast to the use of an automated sorter, the subsequent sorting is done by hand. MSP is responsible for organizing and managing the picking, sorting and subsequent packing processes.
A fully automated high-tech solution is not always the best choice. Particularly in companies with a wide range of products and strong seasonal fluctuations in demand, manual sorting and picking can achieve the same performance, throughput and quality as a fully automatic sorter.
The workflow
During the picking process, several shipping orders are grouped together into one picking batch. The entire picking volume can also be divided among several trays and picked in parallel in different zones. The trays for one picking batch are then consolidated in the tray buffer of the sorting packaging area.
Then the sorting and packing process for a commission takes place at an assigned sorting module, where the picked parts are separated into individual sorting compartments according to the order. Invoices are also added to the order in the sorting module, then the order is packed ready for dispatch and forwarded to the goods issue.
The advantages of manual sorting picking
On the one hand MSK makes possible a shortening of the distances covered during commissioning by means of multi-level commissioning and on the other hand there is no need to invest in an expensive sorter. Flexible deployment of staff is possible and can be controlled depending on the order requirements. Another advantage is that the quiet operation of the MSK means that there are no additional requirements for noise protection devices, which also has a positive effect on the ecological balance.
