Pick-by-Terminal – advantages and disadvantages
Pick-by-terminal is a form of paperless picking. Communication with the picker takes place using a permanently installed terminal. The terminals are often also located on forklift trucks or picking vehicles.
Scanners are often used to record article, serial or batch numbers. This enables fast and error-free recording. Label printers are also frequently used. This allows labels to be attached to the picked goods or the finished packaging .
The advantages and disadvantages of Pick-by-Terminal
The advantage of Pick-by-Terminal is the low error rate of this picking method due to the use of scanners. With manual booking, the error rate is considerably higher. With this form of picking, a permanent inventory is possible.
The disadvantage is that the picking performance is lower than with the Pick-by-Voice and Pick-by-Light forms. The picker has to familiarize himself with the device before he can use it productively. This form of picking is not free of language barriers.
