Storage location management – the importance of EDV in storage organization
In modern warehouses with a certain quantity of goods, the storage processes are usually computer-supported. A computer-supported warehouse organization enables more effective and economical processes.
For example, by using storage location management, it is possible to switch from fixed-location storage to chaotic storage, thus increasing warehouse performance by about one-third. Processes such as the FIFO (first in, first out) or LIFO (last in, first out) principle, the storage of parts according to access frequency and the compaction of residual quantities also have a positive effect on the effectiveness of a warehouse and can only be managed effectively with IT support.
The way in which the warehouse is organized and the associated warehouse processes thus have a significant influence on warehouse capacity.
