The process steps carried out during the outbound shipping process include: consolidating units, generating packages, preparing shipping documents, consolidating packages, preparing for shipment, and handing over packages. The goals of shipping are to achieve a fast throughput time and to achieve meaningful consolidation.
In the first step of the process, the shipping units are sorted, and in the second step, they are packed onto pallets as individual boxes or consolidated boxes. After the shipping documents are printed, a final check for completeness is performed. In the event of a stock discrepancy, this is the last opportunity to make a correction. Thanks to the seamless integration of the warehouse management system with the accounting system, the actual inventory of the shipping unit is sent to the accounting system, which can then correct the invoice. The packed packages are then recorded with updated delivery notes and invoices and routed.
At the end of this business process, the goods are handed over to express delivery service providers, such as UPS or DHL, or freight forwarders, and the shipping run is confirmed. After the “Outbound Shipping” process step, all business processes have been completed.
