Based on the height of an adult (average 1.70 m), a shelf can be divided into vertical zones. The viewing zone begins on average at a height of 1.40–1.60 m and extends up to a height of 1.80 m, depending on the shelf.
The viewing zone is the storage area at eye level of the order picker. Inventory stored in this area is considered to be the most frequently handled.
As with the picking zone, easy removal saves time and energy. The decisive advantage is that storage and retrieval are faster because the order picker can quickly get an overview of the storage area.

The area above the viewing zone is called the reach zone. For more information, see Shelving zones – Reach zone.
