For GLS-Dental, a wholesaler in Kassel specializing in dental, dental technology, and medical supplies and consumables, TUP modernized the company’s existing warehouse—a complex task despite the manageable floor space: Across approximately 3,800 m², some 100,000 items are managed in eight different warehouse types, each with its own picking procedures. The main challenge was integrating several third-party systems from different manufacturers that had been added since 2003, including a picking robot and a “pick-by-light” system, whose inventory data is transferred to the TUP software. The entire implementation took place while operations continued uninterrupted, without compromising GLS’s standard delivery readiness rate of approximately 96 percent.

A few years later, GLS-Dental had TUP inspect its high-availability cluster and completely replace it over a single weekend—including an update to the operating system and database, as well as a migration of the runtime environment. The entire process, from the initial order to final acceptance by GLS-Dental, took only about four months.

When the securPharm Regulation on protection against counterfeit pharmaceuticals mandated additional security features and a connection to the central pharmacy server in 2019, TUP implemented the corresponding adaptation of the warehouse management system on time within about two months—including new MDE devices with 2D scanner technology for capturing the new barcodes.

In this way, TUP supported GLS-Dental over several years—from day-to-day WMS operations and infrastructure modernization to regulatory compliance with new legal requirements.
