Stutensee / Frankfurt am Main – October 14, 2026. At the IT‑Entrepreneurs’ Day on October 6, 2026, in Frankfurt am Main, TUP was awarded the “Software Made in Germany” seal of quality by the Federal Association of ITE System TUP.WMSE Mittelstand e. V. (BITMi)E ‑for its warehouseE managementE system TUP.WMSE ‑system TUP.WMS with the “Software Made in Germany” seal of quality from the Federal Association of IT‑SMEs (BITMi). Dr. Meike Kramer and Eduard Wagner accepted the certificate on behalf of TUP. The award was presented by BITMi‑President Dr. Oliver Grün and Vice President Martin Hubschneider. They particularly emphasized the importance of companies certified with the seal for Germany’s digital sovereignty.
The “Software Made in Germany” seal of quality certifies development in Germany, legally compliant data management, and transparency. These characteristics were closely linked to the topic of digital sovereignty during the IT Entrepreneurs’ Day. “With the ‘Software Made in Germany’ seal of quality, we highlight the quality of German software products. After all, they are the cornerstone of our digital sovereignty,” explained Dr. Oliver Grün at the award ceremony.
Digital sovereignty is more than just infrastructure
Discussions of the term often focus primarily on technical infrastructure: Where are the servers located? Who operates the cloud? These questions are important, but they represent only part of the issue. For TUP, digital sovereignty essentially means one thing above all else: the ability to participate in the software itself. Crucial to its success is that users can actively help shape their software and continuously configure it. Those who can adapt their systems to their own processes—rather than having to conform to the limitations of a product—make better decisions.
True digital sovereignty arises not solely from the choice of location, but from greater flexibility: whether in system integration, hosting, or the decision regarding where data is stored and who controls the value creation. On-premises, cloud, or hybrid—the customer must be able to decide. “Digital sovereignty is perhaps best illustrated by a very simple feeling: My partner remains capable of acting and thus keeps options open for me as well,” sums up TUP’s CIO, Eduard Wagner. “The debate over digital sovereignty must not remain abstract: Technically speaking, open interfaces, flexible hosting options, and avoiding lock-in effects make all the difference. These factors determine whether sovereignty is merely a buzzword or a genuine system characteristic.”
“This award confirms that technical quality and user-oriented openness go hand in hand at TUP,” emphasizes Dr. Meike Kramer, a member of TUP’s executive board. “For our customers, this means: genuine freedom of choice, transparent control over data, and the ability to design systems to fit their processes—not the other way around.”
