Logistics encompasses all tasks involved in planning, controlling, providing, and optimizing processes along the value chain. Procurement logistics covers all processes involved in purchasing goods, right through to transporting them to production or to the goods receipt warehouse. It acts as a link between a supplier’s sales logistics and a company’s production logistics.
The task of procurement logistics is to guarantee the supply of materials in the procurement of goods with regard to the following aspects:
- Correct quantity
- Appropriate delivery date
- Good quality
The goal is to procure optimal, low-cost goods. Through favorable purchases, the goods can be sold at low prices and profits can still be made. Procurement logistics should contribute to optimizing the process between the manufacturer’s purchase of goods and the transfer of these goods to the end consumer.
