Rack zones
A rack is divided into vertical zones based on the height of an adult (average height 1.70 m). The overhead zone is the uppermost storage area and begins at an average height of 1.80 m.
Storing or retrieving inventory from the overhead zone requires the most effort. This is why inventory with the lowest turnover rates is often stored in this area. When storing and retrieving inventory, order pickers use various aids such as ladders, forklifts, or shelf servicing equipment to assist them in their picking tasks. The use of these aids is time-consuming and therefore has a negative impact on picking times.
