Logistik KNOWHOW, the knowledge and information platform for logistics topics, is now also available as an app for Android and iOS. This means that all 700 specialist articles currently available on the platform can now be accessed on the go at any time and free of charge. In addition to articles on logistics, intralogistics, warehouse management, e-commerce, and supply chain management, the app also includes the logistics glossary compiled by the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML. The Logistik KNOWHOW smartphone application is operated by the software manufactory DR. THOMAS + PARTNER (TUP) and can be downloaded from the Android and Apple app stores.
Approximately one year after the relaunch of the knowledge platform, which was launched in 2012, and its expansion with contributions from scientific institutes, the corresponding app is now available. “The app is the logical next step in the development of our Logistik KNOWHOW knowledge and information platform into a sought-after interface between business and science. The app allows our users to read all available articles on the go, even without an internet connection,” says Mathias Thomas, Managing Director of TUP. The high-quality content of the platform is continuously expanded and adapted to current developments in the industry. Around 2,500 users visit Logistik KNOWHOW every day.
The Logistik KNOWHOW application was developed in-house by TUP and designed as a hybrid app to ensure uniform presentation and operation on all platforms. It has a minimalist design that focuses on the content of the articles and makes them easier to read. All articles can be saved and thus also read offline. Cross-links lead to further interesting topics and integrated YouTube videos can be easily played in the app. In addition, users can choose from three categories to determine how much information they want to see in the article overview. Articles can be filtered by category and content from scientific institutes can be searched separately.
Logistics KNOWHOW: Focus on science
In addition to articles from the TUP editorial team, various guest authors and scientists from different institutes expand the range of Logistics KNOWHOW articles. “Logipedia is an important tool, especially for our students, to quickly gain a foothold in their studies and familiarize themselves with the terminology of the industry. Integrating the glossary content into a news app on the subject of logistics is just the next logical step. In addition, current developments in logistics in times of autonomization and the advancement of artificial intelligence demonstrate that work on such a glossary never ends,” says Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. Michael ten Hompel, managing director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML. The Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML is responsible for the logistics glossary “Logipedia” mentioned at the beginning, which has been an integral part of Logistik KNOWHOW for several months. Over 4,000 definitions of logistics terms are available to users both as a compact glossary and in the form of expanded explanations within the knowledge articles. Currently, four scientific institutes are contributing research findings to the knowledge platform: the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML, the Chair of Materials Handling Technology, Material Flow and Logistics (fml) in Munich, the Institute for Technical Logistics and Work Systems (ITLA) in Dresden, and the Institute for Materials Handling Technology and Logistics (IFT) in Stuttgart.
The gallery below shows the application on the iPhone X – of course, users can also install the app on Android-based operating systems and other iPhone models.
“We are delighted with the huge positive response from the industry. And I am convinced that Logistik KNOWHOW has even more potential to reach even more people. Logistics is an incredibly exciting and promising topic that hardly any sector of the economy can afford to ignore. The major issues of globalization and digitalization in particular are creating new challenges that many people need answers to. We want to help provide incentives and impart knowledge,” concludes Mathias Thomas.
