Habermaaß Project Information
Habermaaß is a woodworking company and is known for high-quality baby and children’s toys as well as children’s games and furniture. As the HABA corporate family sees itself as a ‘one-stop shop’ for children, it expanded its range beyond the wood sector while putting in place the same high quality standards. As a result, HABA now offers jewellery, porcelain and textile items, among other products. HABA products are available worldwide in well-stocked specialist toy retailers.
The Challenges
The client order structure in the Bad Rodach distribution centre is highly heterogeneous. Picking types with various performance profiles therefore needed to be operated.
Implementation
DR. THOMAS + PARTNER took on the reorganisation of the internal distribution at Habermaaß as far back as 1998. In the process, output was increased using dynamic order dispatching, a flexible packing area and invoice printing allocation was undertaken, and transparent, secure stock management introduced. Afterwards, the system was expanded gradually according to a plan.
The Goals Were:
- To replace the existing handover facility in Distribution
- To convert Distribution towards batch picking with material handling
- To define two migration levels:
– Manual sorting and picking
– Special packing plant
The migration of the new processes was implemented while still operational, without interrupting productive operations.
During The Project, DR. THOMAS + PARTNER Provided:
- The General Layout
- The Detailed Specification And The Call For Tenders
- The System Design
- The Habermaaß Logistics Computer System (HLS)
- Manual Sorting And Picking
The Result:
- Low Cycle Times Thanks To Parallel Picking
- High Run Yield Through Large Consignments And Short Paths
- Flowing Packing Process From Single-Order Sorting Compartments On Mobile Packing Tables
